On Wednesday, June 19, 2019, the Sacramento Police Department received a call regarding a disturbance between and male and a female. Officers contacted the involved female then responded to a residence in the 200 block of Redwood Avenue to stand by while the female gathered her belongings from a residence. At approximately 6:10 p.m., officers on scene reported shots had been fired, and an officer was struck by gunfire. The officer who was shot, Tara Christina O’Sullivan, succumbed to her injuries after being transported to the hospital. After an hours-long-standoff, the suspect surrendered and was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges relating to the murder of Officer O’Sullivan.
Tara Christina O’Sullivan joined the Sacramento Police Department as a Community Service Officer in January 2018. In July of that same year, she entered the Police Academy where she excelled and earned the respect of her instructors and classmates. In December of 2018, Tara graduated from Sacramento Police Academy Class 18BR-2 and was upgraded to Police Officer, fulfilling her lifelong dream. Officer O’Sullivan loved life, people, and police work. Officer Tara Christina O’Sullivan gave the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of her duties as a Peace Officer. Her heroism will never be forgotten.
