The first Midleton Very Rare bottling was released in 1984 and a new vintage is released every year.
he individual nature of the selection process means that each year’s vintage provides its own unique character. The Midleton Very Rare range is not blended like any other whiskey. The uncompromising ritual and expertise of the Master Distiller leads to subtle but recognisable differences between the years.
Prized amongst whiskey appreciators, there are very few collections of all vintages since the first release in existence.
Tasting Notes
Aroma
Fresh fruit notes of peach and apricot accompanied by sweet butterscotch, vanilla and a delicate rose perfumed floral character that delightfully lingers in the background. Adding to the complexity are notes of toasted almonds, touches of black pepper and nutmeg spice while a strong foundation of charred oak remains constant throughout.
Taste
Rich spice intensity with notes of roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate and mild hints of Seville orange marmalade that seamlessly work in tandem with the stone fruits and vanilla. The interaction between the distillates and seasoned wood creates further depth adding sweet cereal notes and soft oak tannins.
Finish
Lingering finish where the oak and spices continue to build over time while the soft fruit notes are the first to fade.
