The first Midleton Very Rare bottling was released in 1984 and a new vintage is released every year.
he individual nature of the selection process means that each year’s vintage provides its own unique character. The Midleton Very Rare range is not blended like any other whiskey. The uncompromising ritual and expertise of the Master Distiller leads to subtle but recognisable differences between the years.
Prized amongst whiskey appreciators, there are very few collections of all vintages since the first release in existence.
Tasting Notes
Aroma
The Initial aromas of toasted wood brings with it strong roasted coffee notes and rich waves of sweet vanilla and honeycomb. Mild fruity undertones of green apple and orange zest add further dimensions of flavour, carefully weaving amongst the heavier pot still spices and the subtle and delicate floral notes that softly linger in the background.
Taste
Vibrant and sweet. Fresh fruits of sweet pear, apples and apricot appear along with dairy fudge and sugar cane, before slowly subsiding to reveal spices of ginger, freshly grated nutmeg and cinnamon. The charred American oak continues to build over time yet allowing the fruits and spice elements to remain evenly balanced.
Finish
The sweet fruits and spices effortlessly linger for a time before slowly fading, allowing the oak to have the final say.
