The first Midleton Very Rare bottling was released in 1984 and a new vintage is released every year.
he individual nature of the selection process means that each year’s vintage provides its own unique character. The Midleton Very Rare range is not blended like any other whiskey. The uncompromising ritual and expertise of the Master Distiller leads to subtle but recognisable differences between the years.
Prized amongst whiskey appreciators, there are very few collections of all vintages since the first release in existence.
Orange zest with rich notes of vanilla and toffee fudge are first to appear, closely followed by an ensemble of additional fruit characteristics of ripe apricots, peach and sweet pear. Mild spice notes slowly build overtime with a touch of nutmeg and a light dusting of pepper while the charred oak accentuates the cereal notes creating a confectionary sweetness in the background.
Luscious and exotic fruit tones, quickly accompanied by sweet notes of barley sugar, vanilla and chocolate. The intensity of the spices builds over time growing in tandem with the charred oak’s rich tannins creating a mild chilli oil spice sensation with a delicate earthy character in the background.
Lasting finish where the balance of spices and oak complement the fruits, all carefully fading out in equal measure.
