Guy Merlet, third generation of the Merlet Distillery, father of Gilles, grandfather of Pierre and Luc, was a character from the village of St Sauvant, respected and listened to. He was also a free and innovative spirit. Died in 1975, he remains a model for Gilles and his children, and it is therefore in his homage that the Merlets created this exceptional blend. “L’esprit de Guy” is a 100% Fins Bois cognac, a unique vintage distilled at the time of Guy. Assembled from a very old cognac and a cognac from 1948 – year of birth of Gilles – at first glance “L’Esprit de Guy” does not show its age! Presented for the first time at La Part des Anges 2014 and produced in a limited series, this exceptional lot is packaged in an artisanal Cognac bottle of French manufacture, each one being numbered and personalized with a glass stamp from the Merlet Distillery. The box completes the presentation. Composed of two local species, walnut and oak, symbols of Saintonge peasant roots and cognac tradition, each piece is unique and specially handcrafted by Ateliers Drevelle.
L'Esprit de Guy cognac can be enjoyed neat.
Colour: delicately amber, proof of controlled aging
Nose: The nose is intense, with notes of ripe fruit (peach, apricot), almost candied (orange). Then come subtle scents of cedar wood and spices such as cinnamon.
Palate: The palate is smooth, round, very ample and fresh. The fruit is still present and the oak is well blended. The aromas come together very elegantly. The finish is long, slightly peppery, with a hint of bitterness.
