Merlet C² Citron & Cognac combines the liquorist and distiller know-how of the Merlets, and plays on a classic complementarity between cognac and citrus fruits, here lemon and lime. First of all, natural infusions are made by separately macerating lemon zest and whole lime purees. Part of these lemon infusions are distilled, then are blended undistilled lemon infusions, lemon distillates, and cognac. Cognac represents a minimum of 70% of the blend. Finally the sugar is added to obtain the final liqueur.
The sugar/alcohol ratio not being too high, Merlet C² Citron is thus perfect as a digestive on ice, and remains an excellent aperitif when it is lengthened with sparkling water or toinic. It is also a substitute in classic cocktails using orange or citrus liqueurs, such as Merléritif lemon soda.
Nose: The nose is clearly on lemon with notes of ginger, liquorice and spices.
Palate: The tasting in the mouth is an explosion of flavors. Cognac and lemons blend instantly. Then comes the freshness of the zest, combined with the vanilla, the fruit and the wood of the cognac, to finish on a nice length where bitterness, acidity and spicy notes mingle.
