This is a first for Irish whiskey with the creation of an Icewine finished whiskey. Writers’ Tears – Icewine Cask Finish has been produced in collaboration with Inniskillin Winery in Niagara, Ontario, Canada’s original estate winery and leading producer of icewine.
This limited-edition release is a unique triple-distilled vatting of Single Pot Still & Single Malt whiskeys, has been finished for an additional 12 months in icewine hogsheads, before being bottled at 46% ABV.

Originally matured in bourbon barrels, the triple-distilled, single pot still whiskey, was then further matured in Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks from Spain and Florio Marsala Hogsheads from Sicily, before being cut at a juicy 46% ABV.

Writers’ Tears Copper Pot – Deau XO Cognac Cask Finish, is a super-premium, limited edition Irish whiskey. It is the fourth expression released under the Writers’ Tears range. On this occasion our Founder Bernard Walsh has finished his unique blend of aged Single Malt and aged Single Pot Still whiskey for nine months in just 12 French Oak Casks that have been seasoned for 10 to 15 years with Deau XO Cognac. It is distilled to 46% ABV, triple-distilled and non-peated.

This exquisite, triple-distilled single malt is matured only in select handpicked Spanish sherry butts, which have previously been seasoned with the finest Oloroso sherry. It is the influence of these exceptional butts that give this expression of Writers’ Tears its signature rich, ruby hue and hence the moniker – ‘Red Head’. The expression is distilled without chill filtering as nature intended and at a distinctive 46% ABV.

It is available in strictly limited quantities, with only 5280 bottles produced in 2017.
