There’s near perfection in the bitter-sweet harmony which is such an enthralling feature of this truly classic whisky, as its crisp peat softens, not to pepper, but to rich, sweet, juicy fruit.
Talisker 30 Year Single Malt Whisky is a rare cask-strength expression and is non-colored and non-chill filtered. Lieke Hompes, the Global Marketing Manager for Talisker, says of the expression, “These bottles come from highly limited casks that were selected and set aside due to its unique profile. Each bottle holds an individual number and its vintage year making it the perfect opportunity to build a progressive collection.”
Cask strength Scotch is special, entirely unadulterated (not diluted with water), and offers purity of flavor and maturation. Talisker 30 Year Single Malt Whisky is surprisingly lower ABV, coming in at 48.5%, and while it’s not the higher proof cask strength common in the United States, I found that the levels of dilution were perfect, allowing for a broad range of flavors to emerge.
The rare 27 Year Old Single Malt Scotch is only the second triple-matured Talisker released to date
Made by the sea, this Talisker whisky was aged in three different types of casks: First in refill casks, followed by a second maturation in heavily-charred casks, then a final rest in old European Oak puncheons.
The latest collection strays from the repetitive Rare by Nature and delves deep into thematic fables, or Legends Untold. Eight legendary Scottish distilleries are featured in the Special Releases, and the collection includes some of the most expensive whisky since the 2017 collection.
The mythical creatures relate to the distilleries based on “the hidden gems that can be found in each corner of the Scottish terrain amongst the lochs and rugged highlands.” The Talisker 8 Year is a tried and true whisky since 1830. On the shore of Loch Harport, the island’s extremes impact the whisky’s flavor profile, but the legend of a Rogue Seafury is a much better tale.
