Royal St George’s hold a unique place in Open history. Founded in 1887, St George’s hosted the first Open Championship outside Scotland in 1894 and it was by Englishman JH Tayor. The club has hosted The Open 15 times since.
Originally founded in 1869 with Royal ascent granted in 1971 when the course was extended to 18 holes, Royal Liverpool’s association with The Open goes back to 1897 when it hosted its first Open Championship. This was English amateur Harold Hilton, one of the clubs famous sons who went on to win again in 1897.
Founded 133 years ago Royal Birkdale’s association with The Open goes back to 1954 when it hosted its first Open Championship, won by Australian Peter Thomson. Since then the world-renowned course has hosted a total of 10 Open Championships.
Carnoustie Golf Links association with The Open dates back to 1931 when Carnoustie first played host to The Open Championship on the course designed by world renowned James Braid in 1926. Past Champion Golfers include some of the greats including Ben Hogan, Tom Watson and Gary Player.
